Travellers should be up to date with routine vaccinations and boosters as recommended in the UK. These vaccinations include MMR vaccine and diphtheria, tetanus and polio. Care should be taken to avoid being bitten by mosquitos as there is a risk of Dengue fever, Chikungunya and moderate risk of Zika virus transmission. Pregnant women are asked to postpone all non essential travel until after the pregnancy. There have been cases of Cyclospora infection in 2016 and cases of Cholera in Quintana Roo. It is customary to leave a tip as a ‘thanks you’ to waiters, porters, and service providers in hotels, restaurants, bars and cafes. The amount should be between 10-15% of the total bill (in a restaurant).
